ACSI Sells Another TR30 to GE Healthcare

Vancouver, BC Canada  – (February 19, 2009) – Advanced Cyclotron Systems Inc. (ACSI) a leading provider of cyclotron solutions, today announced that it has recently sold another TR30 – a 30 MeV cyclotron to GE Healthcare (GE), in Chicago IL, one of the world’s leading manufacturers and distributor of radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals.  The contract is worth an undisclosed figure between 8 and 16 million dollars.

The acquisition of a second ACSI TR30 cyclotron recognizes the success GE HealthCare has experienced with the first TR30 installed in 2005.  The new cyclotron, configured with four external beamlines, will further increase GE’s production capacity of medical radioisotopes such as Iodine-123 and Thallium-201 used for diagnostic imaging in Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) – a rapidly growing field of nuclear medicine.

“We could not be more pleased and excited about receiving this contract from GE”, explains Richard Eppich, CEO Designate.  “Over the past 20 years, ACSI has worked diligently to produce the most reliable biomedical cyclotrons with the highest production available; this latest contract serves as validation of our hard work and success. It is our plan to build on our TR30 and TR19 installations from the past several years, as we aggressively grow our presence in the world markets. Our past successes, and this new contract award we have received, serve as motivation to continue to develop the best cyclotron solutions available.”

ACSI continues to build on its industry dominant position, having supplied and installed all of the 30 MeV cyclotrons sold in North-America in the past 15 years. It is estimated that over 90% of SPECT radioisotopes used in North-America are produced using the ACSI TR30. ACSI customers include many of the world’s major radioisotope producers, such as MDS Nordion, Covidien and GE Healthcare.  “The return on investment and technological superiority of the ACSI TR30 cyclotron coupled with extremely high customer satisfaction has lead each of these three major radioisotope producers to purchase a second ACSI TR30” notes Umendra Mital, Vice President and General Manager.
