GE Healthcare and Advanced Cyclotron Systems, Inc. (ACSI) Announce Memorandum of Understanding for High Energy Cyclotrons

VIENNA, AUSTRIA, OCTOBER 10, 2010 – GE Healthcare, a unit of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) and Advanced Cyclotron Systems, Inc. (ACSI), a world leader in the design and manufacturing of cyclotron equipment, announced today their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore opportunities for collaboration on High Energy (24 and 30 MeV) cyclotrons and related equipment, during this year’s European Association of Nuclear Medicine Congress (EANM) being held in Vienna, Austria.

This MOU is initially applicable to emerging countries within the EAGM (Eastern & African Growth Markets) region, mainly countries within the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and CIS. .  It allows for coordinated bidding on projects requiring high-energy cyclotron related equipment for providing a PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and SPECT complete solution.

“This agreement gives ACSI an opportunity to offer our customers a wider range of cyclotron related equipment with the full backing and support of GE Healthcare.  Additionally, potential GE customers can now readily access our exceptional high energy cyclotron technology, including both the TR 24MeV and 30MeV cyclotrons,” said Richard Eppich, CEO of Advanced Cyclotron Systems.

“The world-wide demand for high energy cyclotrons for the production of both SPECT and PET radioisotopes is increasing.  This agreement gives GE Healthcare an opportunity to offer our customers the high performance TR-24 and TR-30 cyclotrons as their radioisotope source. These cyclotrons provide a significant complement to our Molecular Imaging portfolio, including radiochemistry and imaging equipment,” said Karl Blight, Molecular Imaging General Manager, GE Healthcare EMEA.
